Discord claims to be supporting the investigation into the leak of classified information.

The announcement comes as concerns over who leaked the documents, their authenticity, and the accuracy of the intelligence assessments they contain continue to rage. The documents, which have markings indicating that they may be highly classified, have sparked a number of articles concerning the conflict in the Ukraine, demonstrations in Israel, and how the United States monitors both allies and adversaries.

The origin of the documents is unknown, however reporting by the open-source investigative site Bellingcat has identified their first appearance as coming from the gaming-oriented messaging programme Discord.

According to Discord's statement, investigators have already been contacted.

According to the statement, "We are cooperating with law enforcement regarding the apparent breach of classified material." "Since this is still under investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time

Despite the fact that the documents have only recently come to light, Bellingcat claimed to have discovered proof that at least some of the files had been circulating on social media as early as March or perhaps January.

Bellingcat referenced Discord users who it said provided comparable explanations of the origins of the papers, although it was clear from their citations that Bellingcat was unable to independently verify all of the details they offered.

Bellingcat's reporting was not immediately confirmed by Reuters, and efforts to contact former server users through the social media site Reddit and other Discord servers did not immediately bear fruit.
