McDonald's prepares layoff notices and temporarily closes its US offices.

The Wall Street Journal reported today that McDonald's, one of the biggest fast-food companies in the world, has temporarily closed all of its US offices as it gets ready to inform its corporate employees of a new round of layoffs.

This week, the company informed its US workers via email that they may now work remotely from Monday through Wednesday. According to the article, McDonald's made the choice so that it could virtually inform people of the layoffs. The number of employees who will be let go is unknown.

McDonald's allegedly said in the mail: "During the week of April 3, we will convey significant decisions pertaining to responsibilities and staffing levels across the business."

The in-person meetings planned for this week have also been requested by the staff to be cancelled.

As part of an updated business plan, the fast-food giant said in January that it will review the corporate employment levels. This evaluation could result in layoffs in some sectors and expansion in others.

As businesses attempt to combat a worldwide economic recession and rising inflation, job cutbacks are increasing. Recently, the activities of several tech behemoths, like Google, Amazon, and Facebook, have been severely reduced.
