LSU wins the first women's basketball championship in school history with a score of 102-85.

LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey guided the team to its first Final Four victory in six tries on Friday. Mulkey put together nine transfers and freshmen in an effort to "Pie It 2gether" in her second season in Baton Rouge. Two days later, she guided the state's premier university to its first NCAA Basketball Championship, giving LSU Athletics, which has been around for 130 years, its 50th team national championship.

Mulkey became the first women's basketball coach to win NCAA championships at multiple institutions with this victory, which was her fourth championship in as many appearances in the title game overall in her coaching career (she had previously won titles at Baylor in 2005, 2012, and 2019).

The official online store of LSU Athletics, LSUshop.net, currently has championship items available.

The Tigers will take a charter flight from Dallas to Baton Rouge on Monday at around 10 a.m. CT. There will be a welcome-home celebration at the Maravich Center at about noon CT. Soon, information will be released on a national championship celebration that will take place on the LSU campus.

In a Women's Final Four game, LSU (34-2) scored the most points ever thanks to a 54.3 percent field goal percentage (38 of 70), including 11 of 17 from three-point range. The 187 total points scored was also a Final Four record.

Iowa (31-7) hit 50% of its field goal attempts (28 of 56).
